Can you take CBD with melatonin?
Nearly one-third of all Americans report not getting adequate sleep, according to the CDC. It is also reported that about 10 percent of the world’s population suffer from insomnia, or inability to fall and stay asleep.
Lack of sleep can leave you feeling moody, groggy and even sick. Getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep every night is essential in today’s busy world. Lack of sleep can also contribute to an increased risk of disease such as high blood pressure, obesity, and mental conditions.
Cannabidiol (CBD) and melatonin are widely recognized as natural sleep supplements. CBD is a natural compound found in the cannabis flower. It is is one of more than a hundred phytocannabinoids which are unique to cannabis/hemp. Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone produced by the pineal gland that regulates the body’s sleep-wake cycle, or circadian rhythm.
While the body naturally produces melatonin, some people find that they need an extra supplement to find rest and relaxation to fall asleep at night. Melatonin production decreases with age and with exposure to artificial light from phones, computers, TVs and other screens.
Research has found that CBD works synergistically with melatonin – in other words, the benefits of both CBD and melatonin complement each other and help each other work more effectively. While melatonin helps you fall asleep faster, CBD improves the quality of sleep by alleviating symptoms of stress and anxiety and promoting a calm, peaceful feeling.
If you are taking other medications, you should always consult your doctor before using them with CBD.
